Bean an Ti sa Chistin(brand new studio cooking series)
TG4 is pleased to
announce a new entertainment cookery
series – ‘Bean an Ti sa Chistin’. This new fifteen part series will evoke happy memories in anyone who has attended Irish college in the Gaeltacht. Very often the first question students ask each other in the Gaeltacht is ‘how
is the ‘Bean an Ti?’ and ‘how
is the food?’
is a cook-off between two ‘Bean an Ti’s’ from different Gaeltachtai. The two ladies will cook a two-course
meal each for 6 students who will taste each meal and vote on a winner. Broadcaster Padraig O Se will present the show
, and will be on standby to
lend a hand to the women when needed.
The two ‘Bean an Ti’s’ will have the challenge of making a dinner and dessert for the six students. The meals they prepare will be similar to meals they would ordinarily make for the students they keep during the summer months. These meals are generally one-pot wonders; that anyone could make after a day’s work.
The six students will eat the two meals and decide which meal they prefer. Whichever ‘Bean an Ti’ they choose as the winner, will go on to the next round and will be in on a chance to win the overall prize at the end of the series of a cookery course
in the Ballymaloe Cookery School.
This cookery competition will see ‘Bean an Ti’ against ‘Bean an Ti’, Irish College against Irish College and Gaeltacht against Gaeltacht. This is the Gaeltacht cook-off! In the first programme we see Mary Margaret Ui Ghionnain and Aoife Mac Ana take part in the first cook-off of the new series. Who’s culinary skills will the students opt for?

I used the recipe from Darina Allen's course
book at Ballymaloe House. I couldn't believe I got it on my first try. To quote me husband 'I can't believe they actually taste like eclairs!'
